Hello! Welcome back to my Blog!

In case you haven’t noticed, I try to create the feature photos for my blog posts myself, to get better at being creative. When I think “Accountability” fingers pointed at me comes to mind. It’s like “Etse! Explain what you did here”. LOL.

So, what is accountability? What does it mean to be accountable?

According to Classroom.synonym.com, to be accountable means to be responsible or answerable to someone for something. It involves taking responsibility for your own actions and being able to explain them.

For the longest time now, the concept of accountability has scared me. Why? Let me take you through.

When I want to start doing something new, or start a new good habit, or pick up a skill, I would like the option of quitting if I wanted to. If I’m accountable to someone concerning those things, it makes the option…

Snail shell

My shell is big

It’s heavy

It weighs a ton

lt looks hideous sometimes most times

But I’m beautiful within.

It hurts that no one attends my exhibition desk because my shell is fat

How will they see when my rainbow coloured slug emerges

How will they see when I dance unlike the other snails with slim beautiful shells

Sometimes I want to be invisible but my large shell won’t let me

I want to disappear because no one can see beyond this shell. So they call me biggie. I hate it

Comments made about my shell will always hurt.

I know my slug is beautiful but it’s difficult to look past my shell.

SUNNY

You’re my sunshine on a cloudy day.

When worries and insecurities get to me,

When the ones I love hurt me,

When my tears grow heavy and form a dark cloud above my head.

There you are, your rays peeking through the dark clouds.

Shades of pink and orange so bright.

Even on days when my worries become a nimbostratus, your energy forms crepuscular rays that overwhelm me.

Rays that make me see beauty regardless of the situation.

When dusk comes and my worries threaten to return, I feel your love as a reflection on the moon.

You’re my sunshine in a flower crown.

The best star that I know.

Mirage

*This poem was written by a friend of mine*

What if life was a mirage?
What if my life were a mirage?
I mean I think I can see ahead
On getting there it’s not as flourishing as I thought
Instead I’m on dry ground
Tomorrow is uncertain
The horrors that plague my now, have turned my tomorrow into a bleak sky.
I’m faced with crossroads that seem to lead to a never ending maze
Should I?
Should I not?
Not a day passes without these thoughts
Do I have to give up my dream in exchange for a better life?
The good book says ‘don’t worry about the morrow for it would take care of itself’
Ironically,
‘’A little sleep, a little folding of the arms, so shall poverty creep in…”
Failure to prepare is preparation to fail
I’m trying to water the road ahead, but still on reaching there, all I see is a MIRAGE!

As I listen to you talk,

Listen to you complain,

Watch you smile,

Watch you repeatedly get what I want,

It feels as though something else watches through my eyes.

It seems this thing has watched you for years,

Like a subconscious of mine.

Only surfacing when you have good news.

In those moments, I find myself taking a back seat.

Watching this thing regard you with its enormous eyes

I hate this monster.

I hate when it takes control of me.

I should be happy for you,

Maybe I am, but i can’t help this thing

This monster that constantly finds it’s way back into my head.

I guess I have been taken over by it

This green eyed monster

Because I’m jealous of you.

Broken Anchor

I was a drifting vessel until I met you

YOU HELD ME DOWN

My anchor

You attached your rode to my brain

And planted reinforcements in my heart

YOU HELD ME DOWN

My wandering vessel put a strain on your fluke

You wound your stock repeatedly to obtain a bearing

The wind of doubt pulled me in several directions at once, heightening the strain on your fluke

BUT STILL YOU HELD ME DOWN

after steady months, my vessel began to venture into deeper waters

Seas of doubt, a hundred feet deep

Seas where your fluke couldn’t reach the bottom.

There was nothing to hold on to anymore.

You began to drift with me.

As we moved, you bumped into rocks and boulders hoping to get a grip

But you got hurt!!!I was destroying you slowly,

Breaking your fluke apart, shattering your crown.

So I set you free.

I reached into my brain and removed your rode,

Destroyed the reinforcements in my heart.

I let you go so you could heal

I still feel the imprint of your rode in my mind

I hope someday you’ll find a vessel that doesn’t drift like I did

But till then my broken anchor.

ELIZA

There’s a hole in my bucket Eliza

You said mend it

I tried, but I couldn’t.

This hole of insecurities.

A hole where all the love poured into my bucket seeps out from.

For the longest time, my bucket never got full regardless of how much was poured into it.

Then I met you.

You started to mend this hole with straws

But alas the straw was too long

I still remember the pain I felt in my chest

The sting of your betrayal

Another hole in my bucket Eliza,

You HURT me

That was a rough patch.

We began to work things out again,

Fix my hole afresh

But we needed to cut the straws

Your words, though sharp enough to cut me, couldn’t cut the straw.

THERE’S A HOLE IN MY BUCKET ELIZA.

Trust. The stone we needed to sharpen the blade to cut the straw

But it was too dry

I had cried all the tears necessary

But it wasn’t enough to wet the stone.

AS time went by, I pondered how to wet this stone of trust, make it useful again.

I realised I needed my bucket full to do that.

BUT THERE’S A HOLE IN MY BUCKET ELIZA

We discovered the only way to fix this hole was with adhesives

We started to bond all over again

The heat needed to strengthen this bond had been provided from our previous fiction, making us stronger than ever.

Slowly, this bond began to mend this hole

My thoughts : This  book was an impulsive read for me. I saw it and went ahead and read it. It knocked a lot of books down my reading list. 

When I first started reading it,  I was a bit confused because so much seemed to be happening at the same time but after the first two chapters, i adjusted to the plot and was able envision things better. The entire story was full of action and there wasn’t really a dull moment. My main issue with the book was the fact that not enough was revealed by the time it was ending and although I’m aware it is trilogy and there are more books to come I expected a bit more.

My favourite character in the book was Remy (Eliana’s little brother). While he didn’t have as much “screen time” as the main protagonists, his enthusiastic nature and strong integrity left an impression.

Overall, Fury born was a nice book and I’d recommend it for adventure and fantacy lovers.

Warning: The book contained a few cuss words and some love scenes which weren’t detailed but could be unsettling for some.

SEALED WITH A KISS BY Loree Lough

Synopsis :Jet-setting bachelor Ethan Burke had no desire to become a father—especially to his best friends’ eleven-year-old daughter, Molly. The shock of losing her parents in a tragic auto accident causes Molly to withdraw into a world of silence, and a frustrated Ethan finally takes his goddaughter to see a Christian counselor named Hope Majors. Will Hope be able to reach the grieving girl—and her heartbroken new dad, as well—despite the haunting tragedies of her own past?

My thoughts: 

I got this book in a three in one collection and I was worried I wouldn’t enjoy it but once I started reading it, I was a goner. 

Summary : When Ethan Burke losses his best friends in a car accident, he’s faced with the challenge of taking care of their eleven year old daughter, Molly whose grief has caused her to lose her speech. Coupled with regret and guilt from his past, Ethan doubts his ability to provide emotional stability for Molly but when the captivating Hope Majors, A Christian children’s counselor comes in their lives, she works hand In hand with Ethan to help Molly heal and in the process, they both find a cure for their personal ailment.

This story was so fast paced, it almost gave me whiplash. Although I was satisfied with the ending, I expected a bit more from the author. In the sense that I would have loved to see how they helped Molly deal with her grief and how things progressed between Ethan and Hope but overall, I enjoyed the story line. 

While I can’t say I had a favourite character because of the length of the book, I can say that I loved the fact that the characters always turned to God for help when they were short of what to do and all the characters were easy to love. 

Wholly, Sealed with a kiss is a lovely story and if you’re a busy person, looking for a book that’s straight to the point, it’s the right story for you……… no kidding I read it in four hours. 😉 😉 

CODEX ALERA by Jim Butcher

Synopsis:The series chronicles the coming-of-age of a young man named Tavi in the realm of Alera, an empire similar to Rome, on the world of Carna. Every Aleran has some degree of command over elemental forces or spirits called furies, save for Tavi, who is considered unusual for his lack of one. As the aging First Lord struggles to maintain his hold on a realm on the brink of civil war, Tavi must use all of his intelligence to save Alera.

My thoughts: 

Codex alera is by far the best fantasy book I’ve read. I’ve had these books for almost three years and recently I decided to read them. 

I personally loved this story because despite Tavi’s obvious lack in fury craft he was able to stand out and proffer solution to many of the problems in the realm. Although he was a commoner, Tavi was able to form strong alliances with the enemies of Alera and in turn join forces in order to overcome their biggest threat.

 My favourite character in the book was kitai who although she was a little rough around the edges, was fiercely protective of Tavi and helped him in accomplishing great feats. I loved the connection between Tavi and Kitai.

The author was very adept with his description of battle fronts which helped me out a lot because I don’t read books like this often and it would have been difficult to imagine but it all worked out well. While the details got boring at some point, it was easy to skim through and continue reading. 

Overall, if you’re looking for a book that’s exciting, full of adventure, mystery and a little bit of romance to keep you busy the Codex alera series is your best bet.
